Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a common procedure that addresses the labia minora (the closest skin folds to the vagina). It is usually performed in women with prominent labia who wish to reduce them or even correct their shape.

Different shapes and sizes of labia minora exist. According to recent studies, about half of all women have labia minora that are longer than the labia majora (outer skin folds).

Many patients seek a labiaplasty not just for cosmetic reasons but because of symptoms such as irritation, pain and inflammation resulting from physical activity or tight clothing.

This kind of surgery can also be performed under local anesthesia with minimal pain.

Results

Labiaplasty typically results in shorter labia that no longer hang down below the level of the hair-bearing labia majora. Most patients who experienced symptoms from twisting and tugging of their labia generally find relief after surgery.

Who can have this surgery?

Typical candidates for Labiaplasty are women who have developed significant labial changes postpartum or who have always had large and/or irregular labia majora, minora, or both.

Additionally, candidates for labiaplasty should be at least 18 years old, in good health, and should have no medical issues that pose potential risks or complications.
